How to Find a Good Moving Company

  1. Use a locally owned company.  Locally owned companies are invested in doing a great job for you.
  2. Avoid searching for the cheapest bid on the Internet.  Many moving companies that offer the cheapest bid are often either non-existent or not very reliable.
  3. Choose a reputable moving company by asking your friends and colleagues whom they used and what their experience was.  Inevitably, you will find out who was great and who not to hire to move your most prized possessions.
  4. Whoever you choose, be sure to check references by talking with their previous clients and also be sure that they are insured properly.
  5. When you are getting an estimate from several moving companies, be sure to include accurate moving insurance for your items in the bid.
  6. Ask questions:  are there any additional costs, as there often are for extra time it takes, if they charge by the hour, do they charge if they are in traffic, by the number of stairs they have to move your items, either up or down flights.
  7. If there is an elevator in your new home, will your large furniture or boxes fit in the elevator?
