Organizing photos can take many hours—days even—if you haven’t done anything with a lifetime of pictures. At the very least, storing photos in photo boxes protects them from dust and moisture. Photo boxes are also easily stacked and labeled on the front so that the photos can be quickly sorted into general categories or time periods until you can take the time to further divide them or put the photos into albums.
Purchase a few photo boxes and decide what is the best way for you to separate your photos. You could label the boxes by decade: 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. This is a quick way to sort them in 10 minute increments. You could also sort by topic: Vacation, Family, and Holidays. Wouldn’t it be fun to create a photo album containing 20 years of holidays?
Rather than store your photos everywhere (in closets, desk drawers, the kitchen), pick one place that all the photos will live. Have this location be able to accommodate the photo boxes, photo albums, and loose photos. I also recommend getting an album for your photo CDs so that these can be stored properly. Have fun sorting your photos and reliving the memories!
