5 easy organizing strategies for the New Year

  1. Follow your urge to purge! After the indulgences and inundation of the holidays, feel free to get rid of anything that no longer suits you. Get rid of decorations you don’t like, clothes that don’t fit, and gifts you don’t like. The universe grants you full permission to re-gift anything!
  2. Offer your unwanted belongings to others by donating them to your local church, school or donation center. Be sure to take digital photos of your donations for an accurate tax deduction.
  3. Pull out all the previous year’s documents and box up what you need to keep for taxes. Anything not tax related, like your cable bills, can be shredded and the folder reused for the new year.
  4. Create an easy system for keeping receipts. For less than $5, you can buy a 13-pocket check file that is a coupon sized Pendaflex. Some category suggestions are: Income (photocopies of checks received), Bank (deposit records), Advertising, Auto, Legal/Professional, License, Meals, Office Supplies, Training, Rent/Utilities, and Travel.
  5. Record the mileage on your odometer to that you can easily keep track of your business travel for the year.
